The Gippsland Lakes
McMillans of Metung Resort is an ideal base to explore the Gippsland Lakes and this wonderful eastern corner of Victoria.
With its vast array of waterways to explore, the Gippsland Lakes system is one of Australia’s most unique environments. The network of water is made up of three magnificent lakes, covering a distance of 60 kms. Beginning with Lake Wellington at the western end connecting via McLennans Strait to Lake Victoria, then on to Lake King and finally, through a man made channel at Lakes Entrance to join the southern sea waters of Bass Strait.
The village of Metung
Nestled between Lake King and Bancroft Bay, the village of Metung is set on a finger of land that extends out to Shaving Point. Located at the heart of Victoria’s aquatic playground, this picture-perfect village is surrounded by water and boats, and is well-serviced with gourmet restaurants, a range of shops, and the popular Metung Pub.
A few minutes drive from the village is the Metung Yacht Club, the tennis club, the lawns bowls club, and the Kings Cove Golf Club.
The water brings an abundance of birdlife, dolphins and great fishing. There is safe swimming for the children, and numerous walking tracks to explore.
Boating is a Metung passion, reflected in the extensive number of yachts in various moorings, and the wide variety of craft cruising across Bancroft Bay. Visitors can bring their own boat, hire a boat for a touch of adventure, or sit back and enjoy a skippered cruise.
The narrow peninsula provides the opportunity for long walks along the water’s edge, relaxed dining, taking in the sunset, or simply fishing from a jetty.
